tl; dr: This is where I’m storing fantasy seeds so I can access them when I GM games. I figured I’d share them in case anyone else found them useful. I hope the six of you who visit this site get some value out of it!
This project started a couple of years ago with a ReMarkable Paper Pro and time to kill waiting for a plane. I was listening to music and thought it could be fun to come up with an adventure based on whatever song I was listening to at the time. From there, I started writing down short seeds for adventures or encounters whenever I take breaks from my real job (which is often). I wanted a place to keep them and thought that maybe someone else might find them useful. I have never built a website or had a blog. If one person finds this useful, it’s one more person that would have found it useful had I kept it in Obsidian.
I have no clue how to do web design. I’m learning as I go. You’ll find nothing fancy here. You might not find anything all that creative, either.
About Me
On here, I’m Sower because that goes with seeds. I’m no Dungeon Dudes or Ginny Di or Mike Shea. No DungeonTube channel or Patreon or helpful books. You don’t know me from Discord and wouldn’t recognize me from Reddit (mostly r/osr or r/shadowdark or r/dndcirclejerk).
I have GMed using modules, campaign guides, and plenty of homebrew. Modules and campaign guides are fine. Some GMs thrive on them. However, I found myself gravitating toward shorter descriptions that I could use to spark my own creativity rather than playing a prewritten adventure. The short descriptions of hexes in Kelsey Dionne’s Cursed Scroll books for Shadowdark drew me to that game. I also strongly prefer the new adventure style seen in the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide and Adventures in Faerun over long campaign books or complete adventure modules.
For what its worth, I have played and GMed several TTRPGs since the 1980s including Shadowdark, Basic Fantasy RPG, Old School Essentials, Dungeons & Dragons (several editions), and some Pathfinder. I prefer fantasy games, so that is what I will emphasize.
Again, I hope you get something from this…but it’s mostly so I can find it easily when I need it!
Some Helpful Links
This site is a work in progress. I might get bored with it and abandon it. If you somehow found it accidentally and are looking for great TTRPG advice, then I have some suggestions!
First of all, do check out Mike Shea at SlyFlourish. Mike knows more about TTRPGs on his worst day than I will on my best. His books are fantastic. His weekly YouTube show is fantastic. I happily subscribe to his Patreon. I also learn a lot from Johnn Four. He has a lot of great adventure seeds that he put together.
After making some seeds with songs, I decided to try to make monster seeds for each monster in the Shadowdark RPG rules. Somewhere in that process, I realized how much of a slacker I am because someone else had a much more ambitious goal of creating excellent seeds on every Pathfinder monster. There are hundreds. Check them out at The Daily Beastiary!
You should play Shadowdark and Basic Fantasy RPG. The latter is free! Both are in the OSR style of gameplay. World-building, if that’s your thing, can be greatly improved by spending a few hours reading Worlds Without Number by Kevin Crawford. It is an amazing book.
I’ll keep adding to this over time. For now, I just wanted somewhere to send you if you get bored waiting for this place to become worth viewing.
