I love the Shadowdark boar description! A boar is an “ornery wild pig with bristly, russet hair and yellowed tusks.” While boar attacks on humans are rare, they do happen. It doesn’t seem like it would be fun to be on the receiving end of a boar attack (caution: gory boar attack photo).
Encounter Seed: As the characters pass near a cornfield along the road, they hear grunting, squealing, and a human shouting. A farmer (peasant) with an axe is chasing five boars. The characters are in the boars’ escape route.
Encounter Seed: An elf (Raybin Synmaer) seems to be hiding behind a tree, facing the characters as they walk through a wilderness area. A well-fed boar (Hickory) grunts and moves to defend the elf. Raybin calms the boar and quietly explains that two (or three) trolls are not far away, likely tracking the scent of the elf and her companion.
Encounter Seed: Two orcs are hunting for a meal in the forest. The orcs are accompanied by two war-trained boars. The vicious beasts (the boars, not the orcs) are wearing armor and are extremely aggressive toward strangers. [Shadowdark Mechanics: War-Trained Boar: AC 14, ATK 2 tusks +4 (1d6), MV near, S +4, D +0, C +1, I -2, W +1, Ch -3, AL N, LV 3. Gore. Deals an extra die of damage if it hits the same target with both tucks.]
Adventure Seed: Saradonna Orview is known by some as The Boarslayer because she slayed one with a bow before she was even 9 years old. She recently woke to find the severed head of a boar in her room. No one was seen going in or out the whole night. The House Orview is afraid.
Adventure Seed: A scout reports finding a secret cave near a boulder. When he peeked into the door, he saw a boar cast in iron. The boar did not move an inch, but it appeared to be breathing. Then he heard grunting from within and sprinted away. He thinks he can lead someone back to the cave.
Ridiculous Adventure Seed: After the characters do something that gains them a bit of renown within a settlement, they are invited to participate in the annual boar hunt and to judge the famous Tusk Festival Boar Cookoff!
