Oozes, cubes, puddings….oh, my! The black pudding is a “black, ice-cold mass of sludge.” It is more dangerous than one might expect from a mass of sludge. It attacks three times for 2d6 damage per successful hit. It is also corrosive, so wood or metal that touches the ooze dissolves on a d6 roll of 1-3. Oh, and it can only be damaged by fire!
Encounter Seed: As the characters navigate the shin-deep to knee-deep waters of the swamp, they (might) notice a black sheen on the surface. A black pudding lurks on the surface, waiting for prey. [Mechanics: WIS DC 15 to notice in daylight; WIS DC 18 to notice by torchlight.]
Encounter Seed: The air suddenly chills as the characters move through the corridor of a dungeon, approaching a sharp right turn. As they turn the corner, they will be face to…uh…they will be facing a black pudding absorbing the corpse of some rival crawler. Hopefully the party has fire!
Encounter Seed: An alchemist offers to sell the party a powder that she created. She says that the party can be used to quickly dry out slimes, oozes, and black puddings. Though she has never used it, she offers a money back guarantee that it will work! [Mechanics: Powder can be used as a thrown weapon. Harmless to most creatures, but causes 4d6 damage to black puddings, gelatinous cubes, gray oozes, and similar creatures.]
Adventure Seed: The well water sure has an odd taste and is colder than usual. Some report an oily surface when they capture the water in the bucket. A village panhandler swears something tried to pull him into the well. While it would not be the first time the man told a tall tale, the guards would like someone to check out the well. They know of an alternative path to the reservoir underneath the settlement. A black pudding lurks within.
Adventure Seed: A coalition of goblins, orcs, and potentially a few ogres has been engaging in skirmishes with soldiers from a nearby settlement. A goblin captive admitted that the group is building some type of siege weapon. While the soldiers distract the enemy, they need someone to enter the ruined keep and sabotage the weapon. They are unaware of two black puddings patrolling the corridors of the keep.
Ridiculous Adventure Seed: A black pudding grows ever in the wizard’s tower on the top of a hill in some settlement. Unfortunately, the black pudding escaped and is slowly heading down the hill, destroying everything in its path.Soon enough, it will arrive at the town hall.
