An archangel is “a radiant being with a crown of fire, snowy wings, golden armor, and a blazing greatsword.” In addition to three brutal flaming greatsword strikes at +10 to hit (2d12 damage), the archangel can command others. Hostile spells targeting the archangel require a DC 18 roll to cast, thanks to the crown of fire.
Combat with an archangel is unlikely for most characters, though evil parties might face their wrath. Combat is more likely if the characters provoke the archangel in some way, but the seeds below largely avoid combat unless the characters really want it.
Encounter Seed: After a night of carousing, an archangel visits one or more of the characters in a dream. The archangel issues a cryptic warning hinting at a temptation in the characters’ future. Perhaps it is nothing more than a dream, but the character cannot shake the sensation that it was real.
Encounter Seed: During combat between the characters and an intelligent enemy, an archangel appears from above and commands everyone involved to immediately cease hostilities.
Encounter Seed: When exploring a dungeon, characters find an old mural depicting an archangel commanding pursuing demons to stop where they stand. The mural has healing powers for those who touch it. [Mechanics: The mural heals 1d6 damage for characters level 1-3 and 2d6 for characters of levels 4 or higher. It heals damage once per day per character.]
Adventure Seed: On a busy afternoon at the settlement market, a man stands on a crate and says in a booming voice, “Wickedness and cruelty will no longer be tolerated. The archangel arrives in three days. Sinners must repent or face her wrath. You have been warned.” While the man will stick to his story if approached, he otherwise speaks with vague assertions about the future. Indeed, in three days, an archangel will arrive in the settlement and place judgment.
Adventure Seed: A group of mischievous devils stole an archangel‘s flaming great sword. He is not sure where they might have taken it but has reason to believe it is hidden in the region where the characters currently reside or explore. The archangel sends a message offering a boon to anyone who can locate his blade.
Ridiculous Adventure Seed: A man begs the characters to go on a quest to locate a single vial of Crimson Cow, a substance that he believes will turn him into an archangel. In truth, Crimson Cow is just a bad-tasting substance that will raise the man’s heart rate for a few hours.
